About the author

I have worked an educator, writer, lecturer, and translator. I’ve written, taught, and lectured on subjects as varied as American, European, and World History, Art History, Archeology, the Spanish,  language, and Wine.  (I’ve also worked as a computer database designer/developer, maintaining and supporting database applications written in various code languages for several clients and employers.)

I first wrote about wine in 1969-72 as a columnist for two NYC publications, Abel Magazine and Park West, both now defunct, but then took a BA and MA in Art History from Hunter College and went on to teach in a private school in Manhattan, after which I took up Post-graduate studies at the Institute of Fine Arts.  I went from there to work at Sotheby’s first as a Latin American cataloguer and then as a computer database programmer/developer for 16 years.  I then returned to teaching in private schools while earning a WSET Advanced Certification in Wine (with Merit) in 2005.  I now hold a WSET Diploma in Wine and Spirits through the International Wine Center (IWC) in NYC.

I call my blog “Wine, Seriously”–because I believe that when one writes about such a broad and complex subject, one should know the subject really well and back that up with notes and references where appropriate. Thus, my approach tends to the academic.  In other words, I don’t write about social events around wine or the personal life of people in the trade.  I confess to being a Perennial Student, always seeking  to learn something new, add to my knowledge, and share what I’ve learned with others by means of this blog. In other words, I’m also a Perennial Teacher.  Just can’t help myself.
